Worship Set List – 9/23: My first weekend at my new church, broken drum sticks, pizza and baptisms
Today was my first Sunday as the worship leader for Sunridge Community Church in Temecula, CA. Today was the Annual Celebration. Greg Sidders, our pastor, challenged us to invite. Indeed it is true that a simple invitation can get someone to come to church with you. And, that one event might be a life-changing thing for a friend! (Find the message here)
The worship time was so fun! Our band rocks and the congregation
engaged and it was such a treat to start a ministry on a high note.
One song that really hit home for me was “Cry Out Your Name” by my
Texas friend and worship leader Jeff Moore. It was a tune I have done
for years and Sunridge has done it for years, too. So, it was nice to
make it fresh for both of us. The words really say what I want my
church to hear about worship.
I am proud of our drummer Dave who actually broke sticks today. On
my “audition” service a few weeks ago he actually broke a snare head.
I do love the drummers, and being that I miss my bros in Redding (lost of love to Nate, Jon and Randy…), it
made me feel great to have a new friend who gets into his playing and
who has skill.
Another great thing was being commissioned in front of the church
where hands were laid upon my wife and I. Earlier in the service the
pastor interviewed me about the whirlwind week we have had and about
hopes for the Sunridge people as their new worship leader. The two
things I said: raise up the next generation of artists, and deepen our
heart for God where the result is that we learn to love people and
reach them.
The celebration was a blast with testimonies of life-change,
healing, and thanksgiving. The baptisms made the afternoon stretch a
bit, but were the most moving part of the day for me! You can see in
this picture a group of kids on the bottom right hand side of the photo
getting a close look at the baptisms as they happened. My son was in
that group and it warmed me to see what my kids are already exposed to
on their first worship experience here in Temecula.
