Rehearsal night at Sunridge…off stage leadership
Tonight is rehearsal at Sunridge Community Church. Our worship team is preparing, like any of the other 52 weeks of the year. The lift is up fixing lights, the tech crew is scrambling to make audio and projection work properly. Slides are being edited. The singers hum their harmonies off mic during a lull in the practice. The musicians are jabbing the worship leader as usual. Tonight is a bit different for me, however.
The difference is that I am observing this all tonight and not playing,
singing or actually driving any of the activity tonight. Besides
leading worship and being an artist, my favorite thing in ministry
above all is seeing a diverse, unique group of individuals
work as a team for a common purpose and goal. I love it! To me, this
is where the rubber meets the road–even just to watch it all.
My role in this all? It is easy as a leader to think that you have to
be out front all the time. Wrong. The hardest and most effective
leadership happens in thinking, planning, praying and the small
meetings with people. It is in seeing a plan developed and shaped and
people encouraged as well as administrated. If I were to lose worship
and music talent, what kind of leader of worship could I be? That is a
question I ask myself often, keeping my values in check. People are
what matter. Not programs. Not institutions. Keep investing in
people and you are likely to see some returns that really mean
something.

We are just happy that you trust us as much as you do, to leave for 2 weeks and have no worries, as far as we know.
I need to take a week off like this . . . I am still setting the tone for us though, but I will! It’s awesome to know that one of the best I know can do it and hope I can be like that someday! Awesome job Rich.
