New song: “This Sacred Place”

The song "This Sacred Place" is a new worship song I wrote and introduced to our church this past Sunday.  I think it went over pretty well.  We did not perfect the arrangement, but the simplicity is still there.

The idea is that we can go to God boldly because Jesus is the New and Living Way.  Also, I think we all long for some of the symbols that let us know our faith is older than us–like steeples, cathedrals and thoughts that have stood the test of time.  It is with this sense of awe and mystery that we come to worship.  So, even though we have confidence to approach, we have to remind ourselves of that privilege given the history of our faith and the nature of God’s holiness.  Really, our churches should be sacred places that retreat from the scattered thinking of the mundane rituals in life.

Let me know what you think.

I have also included a chord chart: Download ThisSacredPlace-C.pdf.

  1. Ben says:

I likey. Nice song. Seems like a good/easy to sing tune for the church.

  2. Peter Park says:

I do like the song a lot. It’s very simple, which is what I’m all about. Have you considered going up a key or two? Just a thought?

  3. Rick says:

Wow, thanks for sharing that, Rich. Nice tune. If you don’t mind, I’d like to teach it to my new worship team up here some time.

BTW, if you’re doing all of that production at your church with mostly volunteers they’re sure doing a heck of a job at it. Impressive.

  4. Peter…I like the key where its at for me …kind of the point is too many songs are so high, which is not bad necessarily. I wanted a contrast and the key of C just rings well with the chord changes. However, feel free to change the key if you want.

Rick…all with volunteers, of course. It is indeed amazing what our crew does around here!

  5. nice songs!
I liked seeing how your team did with an original. They did well!

  6. JVo says:

great tune, bro. proud of you. enjoyed our chat today. i got up to pee real quick and came back to the computer after you signed off. good to touch base. praying for you.

  7. Ellie says:

    I loved it.

  8. Waltermoose says:

    Very Nice….

    Good Track there Rich

  9. Mark Jaffrey says:

Nice song Rich. I like the key of “C”, no annoying black notes to worry about.

I thought you had voted off the drum shield?

  10. klampert says:

I liked it man…key is real nice…i think a modulation within the song would be cool though…words are great

  11. Lachelle says:

I really love this song, was singing it all week. I was actually hoping you would do it again today–and you did! Love the lyrics, which mirror my own thoughts of late:
“I lift my eyes up to the hills–from where my help comes from. My help comes from the Lord, Maker of Heaven and earth.” Psalm 121

    Great song, Rich!
