Historical night for this election and the Evangelical community
The Saddleback Civil Forum was historical in the fact that it was this election’s first side-by-side peek at both candidates. The other historical nature of tonight was in my opinion a very public and noteworthy display of the new Evangelicalism. No longer is there tolerance in the current generation and younger to divide our churches based upon party or to step inline with the Republican party as a group.
In my church and many that I know, Evangelical Christians are
thoughtful people who have differing opinions about public policy.
Rick Warren brilliantly displayed the new Evangelical ethos. More of
us are independents and more of us no longer listen to James Dobson or
the old guard where protests and harsh speech were the strategy.
I believe this is historical since it allows us as Christians to have
more thoughtful discussion not just about politics but about our personal
faith. We need to earn that voice of faith and social justice is not
the only avenue for that–social discourse is as well.
Do you think this is historical, or do you think this was terrible for a church to host?
