Worship Mythbusters: The Myth of A Painless Offering of Worship (PART 2)

WMB is a series and this is Part 2 from Monday’s post

The myth of a painless offering of worship

If worship is perhaps not a “painless offering” than it is not…

  • three easy payments
  • about feeling good all the time
  • without cost
  • all my favorite songs
  • without using my brain
  • always convenient
  • about my preferences
  • something for me but from me

Anything else we can add to the list?

  1. janowen says:

    about my comfort….

it’s also not equivalent to “the flu” – we don’t “catch” it, it’s an offering we bring.

  2. Jan… that is profound. We don’t catch we offer!

  3. Gary Durbin says:

    …something I’ve already experienced.

Legalism is rooted in subjectivism. I guess mine is along the comfort lines as well. New experiences in worship can be painful and uncomfortable. Cool post.

  4. Derrick says:

… about me at all (I know this is a little general and encompasses a lot of what you’ve listed… maybe it would work better as a subtitle…)

… for God’s sake (He doesn’t need it from us (Luke19:40), but we need to bring it to Him (John 4:24))

    … someone else’s responsibility

    … optional

    … without distractions

I love “… without cost” and “… without using my brain” Good stuff, Rich.

  5. Conner says:

…all rainbows and butterflies. Sometimes, worship is tough.

I LOVE “you give and take away but my heart will CHOOSE to say, ‘Blessed be Your name.’” that’s not easy or fun to say but it’s true and it’s honoring to God and it’s worship.

Love it! Especially “not something for me but from me.” It’s not the flu! HA! Priceless.

  6. Gary, Derrick, Conner

thanks guys for participating in the conversation… those are great thoughts

  7. Joe says:

….anything less than encompassing every affection, motive and thought

….anything less than every single moment

    ….easy. (Christ crucified, for example)

….anything less than the highest of joy! (why Christ willfully chose crucifixion – Heb 12:2)

Interesting excercise saying what worship is “not”. Will you do a “Worship is…”? That’d be equally interesting!

    Thanks Rich!

  8. Billy Chia says:

Worship is not making sure the guitars and drums are not “too loud.”

  9. Wisdom Moon says:

    Good stuff.

BTW, don’t forget to email me your song for the podcast.

    Thanks.

  10. Jules says:

kinda like giving blood…there is sometimes a sting associated with it before the blood can flow unhindered
