Ash Wednesday: First week of fasts, here’s what I am doing

lent

To begin Lent, this first week of fasts will: Sweets, Treats and Self Indulgence. So, no candy, chocolate, beer, fun beverages of the same kind and no cigars for me. No dessert, ice cream. I will have coffee, however. This will be the first week fast where I will resolve to spend nothing special on myself. We will see how I do!

At www.sunridgeworship.org you can see what my church community is doing about Lent.

What you are doing or not doing?

We are giving up sweets. A big deal in our house. Would you believe I forgot at lunch, popped a piece of candy in my mouth, and heard my wife say, “So much for Lent.” (She said it good-naturedly.)

Then we packed up the candy and put it away.

We are doing a 40 days of prayer on our campus blog and posting something each day (Sundays don’t count) which I am helping Todd write and plan. I’m not really giving up anything physically, but more of really having an intense attitude of prayer during this season and really re-focusing my heart and mind on Him and the beauty of the coss in my life.

well, if I do my fasts and NOT pray, then I would have failed!

one thought… a friend on twitter had a good question about why myself and others are broadcasting what we are doing since fasting should be private. I agree…but, with Lent this is a corporate fasting, so the reward is for us doing it together. Sharing is to support each other in it, more than brag…at least I hope so!

And you’re gonna run a few miles too!? ;)

    I’m fasting fasting… how’s that for a fast?

Eric… well, this first week is saying NO to indulgences, rather than YES to pain. ;)
