Recap: We had kids sing! Yep, and they did great. We did a three-song presentation which included “America The Beautiful” which is a well-written, humble prayer for our nation–especially if you do all the verses. Greg (@gregsidders on Twitter) preached a timely sermon about hope from Isaiah 40. Also, we had the privilege of Robert Pearson playing with us in drums. I appreciate so much our worship team, tech team and production volunteers who make weekends like this shine!

Set list: We focused a bit on “freedom” referring to Memorial Day.

  • Come, Now is the Time to Worship – Brian Doerksen
  • I Am Free – Jon Egan
  • Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone) – Chris Tomlin
  • Here I Am to Worship – Tim Hughes
  • Everlasting God – Brenton Brown (Isaiah 40 anyone?)

How was your worship weekend? Please share.

It was such an awesome worship time! Loved the songs, loved the tie-in to the message in Isaiah 40, and loved the kids singing patriotic songs that glorify the Lord!

Yes, it was a good day!

Its a fine line to be “patriotic” knowing that our citizenship is in heaven and I think we did well with that balance Sunday to honor our nation but by offering a prayer on how we could live better as follower’s of Jesus.

I was blessed to be able to take some of our worship team up to lead worship for a family camp Friday thru Monday. Great time with the family and friends and an awesome opportunity to worship with a bunch of of other families from all over the place.

Rich – great set list! I agree on balancing. When I first started leading at East Valley, I didn’t do any patriotic songs on a July 4 weekend…oops! I usually do some on that weekend; but, on other holidays, always refer to the holiday and focus on God. Blessings!
