You have been an amazing friend to me. I am almost hoping that you get to stay local that way we can continue our friendship, but realize that God may have other plans for you. I’ll be praying for you.
11. The technology is more important than the message. Or…
12. We need to have the latest gadgets in order to connect with modern culture.
13. Numbers are all that matter, as long as the money is coming in we don’t need to change. Or…
14. We need more people so that giving will go up.
15. Formation of ministries must come from the top down, never from the bottom up. Or…
16. Ministries that start from the top are more ‘blessed’ than grass-roots ministries.
17. We must be fair and give equal budget to every ministry otherwise some staff might feel slighted.
18. Discipleship is about going through a study book, rather than one-on-one mentorship and passing on spiritual confidence and a mature world-view.
19. An effort is taken to make everything in the church make sense and the movement of God in the church to be predictable. When God told Joshua to march around Jericho and blow their horns, on paper, that was a pretty dumb idea. So was Gideon’s army, and Joshua Ch. 5… and Noah building a boat… and… you get the idea.
20. You make a decision in convenience or expedience, rather than conviction.
i think it’s a tie between twitter and my blog. I will only twitter once, maybe twice a day. I don’t like people who twitter 17 times a day. Few people are that important to have that much to twitter, but even the president of the united states is more restrained about what he says on Twitter. However in some areas I think my blog is the cornerstone. While people follow me on twitter, the biggest draw ends up being my blog.
One word: innovation. Market leaders always make more money simply because they are the market leaders, instead of the immitations. It’s the original, the one and only. They did it first – they do it best. Look at the iPod and all it’s knock-off clone MP3 players. Apple invented it first. Everyone else was a copycat.
The further we reach into the future, the more I see technology slowly integrating into even the most mundane parts of our lives. A statistic has shown that almost 50% of 12 year olds have their own cell phone. Technology becomes an extension to our very beings in a way that it’s like driving a car or looking at this comment on your computer screen.
Ah, I made you self-conscious there for a moment didn’t I? Where were we 15 years ago when Google and the internet didn’t exist? I’m having a hard time remembering. So what is the church going to look like in 15 years when everything is digital? Will our Bibles be on a Kindle? If it does, I’ll want one.
Oh dear, I’m afraid I’ve already done that! I’ve found a problem with this however. While the guys may think it’s good to be clever with white coats and pens in your front pocket, girls aren’t lining up to swoon all over you. They still prefer the chisel-jawed, 45-magnum toting “look at me, I’m David Caruso” type. I have yet to meet a woman who didn’t secretly want to be swept of her feet by someone like Jack Bauer. And I’ve never met a woman who wanted to be swept of her feet by Stephen Hawkins.
I remember when I was in fourth grade, I was sure that I wouldn’t make it out alive, let alone into high school And now I’m finished with college. High school seems a faint memory or dream to me. I’ve been keeping my eyes wide open because I know that if I blink, I’ll find myself in my own apartment, with a wife, and a baby on the way, having missed all the special moments between now and then.
I remember it was F. Scott Fitzgerald who said that “plot is a strip-tease. You know what’s going to happen at the end. It’s the journey of getting to the end that makes the novel worth reading.”
