  1. Guest Post by Zach Tanksley: God's Concert

I think the ‘spirit and truth’ is the hardest yet most simple aspect of worship. What may be ‘truthful’ worship for one church congregation may not for another, and I think that goes for the individual. I dunno. I guess I’m still trying to figure it out.

  2. Photo caption...Peeps please!

    Hey Vinnie we’re twins!! . . . OOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW!!!!!!

  3. The myth of a "painless" offering of worship

I don’t have any thing to add, but I do think, that sometimes as worship leaders we assume that our congregations know what it means to worship. Then when they complain about the songs or style, we get confused. Sometimes as worship leaders I think we need to encourage the Church to sit back and actually meditate on the words and how they help us lift up God’s name in praise.

  4. NO SKATEBOARDING ALLOWED! - How do you feel about rules?

I know that we are supposed to submit to the authority over us, and follow the rules. However, in my opinion, some rules are stupid. That doesn’t mean we should break them. I always wonder how far over the speed limit Christ would go, is 5 mph over ok? Or is that still a sin, I only bring it up because I am always convicted by that, maybe we should all drive more like Grandparents? I’m rambling, my apoligies.

  5. 1000th Blog Post! - iTunes GIVEWAY!

I started reading probably back in year 1. I think Zach Tanksley told me about it, but I read because of our RL relationship and discussions!

  6. Futurecasting Worship: 5 more things to look for in 2010

    I’m with JB here!

  7. Where no church leadership has gone before...

That was hilarious, you make a good Vulcan.

  8. Times of changed with Modern Warfare 2: Largest Ever Entertainment Launch is a VIDEO GAME

I do see video games becoming a huge part of who we are as a western world. Because i’ve moved around so much in the past 2 years most of my friends are online friends via WoW. Most of my socialization takes place here, in the virtual world. Whether this is healthy or not I don’t know, but it is a bigger reality today than it was even 5 years ago.

The shift to video games has it’s pluses and minuses, video games are more social, it’s easier to interact with people while playing them, then while sitting in a dark theatre. However, a movie has an ending about 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours later. A video game (especially one like World of Warcraft) can last for weeks or months, or even years (as I’ve been playing WoW for more than 3 years now). And some people just lock themselves in their room play for 20 hours a day, eat and sleep for 4 hours only to awaken and continue. So I guess my opinion is the shift is neutral.

  9. 10 statements that will help you FAIL as a Christian

I fear that I have fallen into using these phrases or ‘creeds’ before. although #5 is one I might struggle with. I am not one to simplify theology and faith, but I think the idea that those that say this is true. There is more to it, and the ‘FAIL’ is to just leave it at that. I have noticed a lot of evangelists say something like this leave it at that, and then we have a lot of un-educated and spiritually stunted saved folks running around . . . sorry for the rant . . . (50 dkp minus?)

  10. Happy Birthday: Four years of blogging!

I’m jealous of Zach this weekend, but excited to see where this blog goes, have a great weekend you two!

  11. 5 things you get as a leader: If you are a real leader don’t expect a parade!

These past leadership blogs have been very impacting for me, they seem very relevant to me. On a lighter note . . . sometimes I don’t mind being the fart in the wind!

  12. Five leadership principles that promote dialogue verses monologue

It’s interesting to hear (or read) “What younger people seem to be saying is that they want to critique, deconstruct and immerse themselves in their places of work . . .” that is how I feel. Although as one from that generation and also a church leader I realize that sometimes results are needed and that doing what must be done is also necessary. It’s nice to have your opinion listened to, but there is a right time and place for it.

  13. Social Media a fad? NO WAY, check this video out!

Craziness, the first question that popped into my head is, what are our churches doing about or with this?

  14. Worship Mythbusters: Sermons are not worship? - 5 ways sermons are worship.

I think I have a harder time seeing the sermon as a part of worship. But that is a mind set I am working on getting out of. I have definitely heard sermons that felt worshipful (for lack of a better term), and delivered sermons that felt that way as well. For me it all comes down to heart condition, I believe that a sermon can be an act of worship for the deliverer of the message and not at all for the listeners, and vice versa, based on heart condition.

I also believe that if a person is just ‘listening’ to the words, but not applying them or acting them out, then the act of worship is not there.

  15. Worship VIDEO, Recap & Set List: August 23, 2009

Nice shirt Rich, where can I get one . . . I mean, shoot should have said something spiritual. Always love to see/hear Emilie leading worship! Great team, great kid, and a great dad!

  16. Worship Recap & Set List: August 16, '09 - Staci Frenes guest artist

Rich your a stand up guy, great sermon, also a great mentor and worship leader. Thanks for all the effort you put in to sharing your passion and heart with all of us, and for those of us fortunate enough to be mentored and poured into by you thank you from the bottom of my heart!

  17. My Message from Sunday: Profit & Loss - Investing in what matters most

I expect change to quickly a lot . . . nothing deep there, but still reminds me of a flaw

  18. Doodle of the week: a camera

What is this film you speak of?

  19. Least of These: List of 10 Invisible People Around Us Everyday

I don’t know who I would add, I guess for me, as a Youth Pastor, sometimes parents are invisible, I’d rather hang out with their students then talk to them about what is going on with them. I ignore parents, because I get their students, I don’t always understand parents. I also loved that the Military was on that list. My youngest brother is in the Marine Corp. and I’ve seen a few people come up to thank him, and he gets a big smile on his face and loves the thanks. Not that he needs it or gets off on it, but I think he likes knowing people appreciate the fact that he got blown up, or got shot at, or whatever. he doesn’t need it, or expect it, but he loves it . . . oops sorry about the rant?

  20. Breakfast fun with my son: Swing Inn, Temecula, CA

I remember when my Dad used to take me out to breakfast just the two of us. Those are some of my favorite memories!

  21. Worship VIDEO, Recap & Setlist: July 12, '09 - My daughter & nephew lead #sundaysetlists

Wow, I say this a lot, maybe too much, but Emilie never ceases to impress me! And here cousin on the drums and cello also impressive, Rich you are doing some great work down there!

  22. Worship Mythbusters: Ten things that damage a worship ministry and hamper worship in a church

I don’t know if we can single one of these out as the worst, but number 10 definitly can make all the rest of them worse, and ‘Church Politics’ is probably a biggy, especially since it appeared 3 times. The scary thing about Politics is that sometimes we are ‘playing the game’ with out realizing it, and then people get hurt

  23. This video shows homemade ice cream a winner with my family!

My dad and I (and the rest of our fam) used to make Strawberry Icecream when I was really young (since I’m still young right?) but we had a handcranked maker, not a nice electric one

  24. A fire, canceled rehearsal, holiday weekend = fun? :)

I left So Cal just at the right time I guess!
