My son was three years old when this video was shot. His preschool Sunday school class taught him how to tell others how to follow Jesus. It’s amazing how much a child can understand when it comes to spiritual matters. Many kids will be eternally grateful for having people teach them this well. Thanks to all of you who serve in your local church with kids! The investment in kids is the best investment you can make.

If you have not heard, the big news for the Kirkpatrick family is that my role as Worship Pastor at Sunridge Community Church has ended this past week. It has been three years, minus a month. I am going to miss the people I invested three years of my life into. It is obviously a calling for me, not just employment. This sudden parting for me puts my family in a position that many other church staff people face. It’s what I call a “triple whammy”.
The hardest part was sitting around our kitchen table last Thursday and looking both my kids in the eye to deliver the news. Tears were shed. Big tears. “Dad, I’m confused” was my son’s response. My girl said that she does not want to lose another youth group. We prayed, hugged and all agreed that even though we don’t know the next leg on this journey that we are in this together. That is what families do. (more…)

We have logged in over 1600 miles, plus a ferry ride to the island of Vancouver in British Columbia. So far, our trip has been a great time for the four of us. Victoria is simply an amazing place. Here are some bullets about our trip so far:
- Staying with friends and family is a huge highlight…we have not seen some of these very important people in our lives for over two years! Priceless conversations.
- Our new car (Nissan Pathfinder) was a good choice. Plenty of room and having more seat belts (7 total) is important–keeps us four and friends together when out on the town.
- Wiring an inverter to the battery to run the Xbox in the car was a massive win for my 12-year old son. Actually, when my wife was driving, playing Modern Warfare 2 with my son in the backseat rocks!
- It is fun to take lots of photos and have friends and family comment on them on Facebook.
- We wish we had more time.
Anyway, I might sneak in a blog post on our way back down…or not. What is your favorite road trip experience as of late?

I love to make my family breakfast as many Saturday mornings as possible. We set the kitchen table and chow down on Belgian waffles with fresh blueberry sauce, eggs, bacon and orange juice. I love my waffler and cooking, but being together in a rare sit-down with my family of four is the best part of it.
Breakfast wins for me as the best meal which I could eat any time of day. What is your vote?
