Could your beliefs cause a riot?: Faith, culture and Google searches that reveal religious stereotypes

Over at the Holy Kaw blog today they referred to a Venn Diagram from Blame It On The Voices that shows what a Google search finds by putting “why are Muslims so…” in the search bar and doing the same with “Christians” and “Jews”. As you can see in the diagram, the words that came out are not at all flattering and depict stereotypes. (more…)

The Mosque in Temecula and NYC: We can be a Christian ghetto or salt & light

On the front page of our local paper and in the national news, two seemingly parallel scenarios are taking place. In our local city of Temecula, California some fearful people are protesting the building of a 25,000 square foot mosque. In NYC a mosque is proposed just blocks away from the 9/11 Ground Zero. Interview with Rabbi Derek Leman: New Threads study Feast, legalism and using palm branches in worship

I recently completed reading and reviewing Threads Bible study entitled Feast. Derek Leman is an author, rabbi and Messianic Jew who crafted a worthy introduction to experiencing Old Testament feasts in the context of being a Christ follower.  I recommend this study.  Personally, I found it solid in biblical perspective and fitting for emphasizing the concept of spiritual disciplines.

My Christmas greeting in song: Light of the World

Merry Christmas to my family, friends and blogging community out there.  This is my first Christmas season in Temecula, California.  As most of you know, we recently moved our family from Redding to SoCal and are adjusting as well as can be expected.  The Christmas season is great for all the reasons our culture loves, but I have to pause and share what I think Christmas is really about.  Just like Linus of Peanuts, I had the lights turned on and had my chance to speak some sense–if anything to myself.  Christmas is powerful because of the power of the fact of Jesus coming as a baby with the intent of dying for you and I.
