Music Video: “The Least I Can Do”

This is one of the songs we sang at Southwest Community Church in Indian Wells, CA where I was a guest worship leader. “The Least I Can Do” was written by worship leader Mark Roach.

Recap: I missed my Venture people this weekend to help my friend Dave Moore who currently is doing short term mission work in Uganda, Africa. This was my third time being with Southwest Community Church and each time I have loved being there. The musicians, tech and production people are top notch! Besides that, they truly are a well oiled and big hearted group, thanks to leaders like my friend Dave!

One of the treats for me personally was having my daughter Emilie help me lead worship. She is an amazing vocalist, both in a lead role as well as in a backing vocal role. Yep, I admit to being a proud dad.

Leading here has some challenges. You do not get a full run-through in the venue but a short 5-10 minute sound check and boom! We even rehearsed in a different room. So, this meant having to take a deep breath and just going for it. I think overall after watching the whole service that it went great! This does not mean perfect, however.

So, because this is LIVE folks, there are always fun things that happen. One mistake I made was not realizing that this particular service was concurrent to a video venue upstairs! I was about two minutes short which means upstairs they had to scramble or something. This prompted me to put together a fun 45-second clip of my foibles for the service. (Realize I am just making fun of me, and that the team at Southwest did a terrific job!)

Video: Worship Outtakes!

Now into week five of our family’s new adventure I am pretty busy the next three weeks or so! I am amazed at how many local leaders and friends from all over the place have been an encouragement to me and my family. As the Kirkpatrick clan is praying about our next step for employment or ministry–it is a family affair by the way–we are excited to watch God begin to unfold some things.

Intersection Road Trip: Vince from Gateway Church Austin runs the Internet Campus there and he invited me to join him on a “blog tour” from Austin to Chicago. We will see or interview the likes of Jon Acuff, Pete Wilson and creative mentor and friend Randy Elrod. We end up in Chicago at the Story conference. Look for some live streaming and some great stuff!

I will be guest worship leading at some very impressive ministries the next weeks as well. I’ll be leading all three services at TheMET Jones Road Campus in Houston on September 26, the three contemporary services of Rancho Community Church in Temecula on October 2-3, and all four services of Lamb’s Fellowship in Murrieta the 10-11th of October.

I am working on writing for some websites and starting a business. That I will have to tell you about later.

Anyway, please be praying for me this week and the following weeks. I’ll be updating here occasionally.

Recap: We accomplished going to our summer format of one service at 9:30 AM this past weekend. It was great to see the room full. Our room and presentation works far better with over 500 than with less than that. This Sunday, Nick Arbuckle helped lead–our summer worship intern from TX. Besides Nick, we had our keys guy fill in on bass (not his first instrument) and a new drummer added to the mix. With all of that going on I think it went great.

Set List: We introduced two new songs. Off of the Passion Awaken CD we introduced “Our God” and the now-classic-but-new-to-us song by John Mark McMillan entitled “How He Loves.” It was a great thing to have John Mark in our building singing that song a few weeks ago in concert.

Recap: MANCHURCH is becoming a tradition at Sunridge, with a Sunday we call “church for guys. Britt Sipe was the emcee in a Letterman-like monologue and interviewed his life-long buddy Mark Trotter who delivered a challenging and timely message to us. (As soon as video is available I will post or link to it here).

Our band has fun on these days, with jams and an extended praise time of soloing with instruments. Guys like it when other guys rip on their horns or guitars, etc. All of that was in the context of expressing worship! I love how in the Book of Psalms we find every instrument played “loudly”–cymbals, drums, strings, horns…

Set List: We had a shorter set than usual with all the fun videos.

Salvation Is Here – Hillsong United

No Greater Love – Matt Maher

You Are Good – Israel Houghton

Media: Here is a trailer/bumper for our new sermon series “Iron Man”.
