Recap: After a few weeks now, our worship planning and process is starting to pay off. The flow was great and the response time of worship after the sermon about obedience meaningful. We sang “Surrender”. We trained new audio and screen switcher positions this week, building a deeper bench for the tech booth. Also, I am excited that the Mexican church that shares the building with us will collaborate by letting us use their PA speakers–far better than what we currently have. We changed drums heads, and temporarily swapped out the hi hat stand due to it being broken. Sharing stuff with youth, another church and the wear of multiple services takes its toll on gear. (more…)

Recap: On my fourth Sunday Venture Christian Church, we finally had some great chemistry going on with the worship team. As most of you might know, it takes time to get that “feel” going. So, I am very happy that at least for this Sunday me and the team felt that. We also had another baptism this week. And, our traverse through the book of Acts continued with lead pastor Guy Fox talking about help for the hurting from chapter 4. (more…)

RECAP: Today was an amazing experience as a parent and a pastor. I got to baptize my son today in the worship service. Ethan is 12 and shared his story of how he came to faith in Christ. Our baptistry is a like a military issue–a folding box loaded with water that has the officiant standing outside. Here is video.
SET LIST: We did four songs, rather than the usual five. Our team and I are still learning to get things oiled as this is only my third week in the saddle here as worship director. The song “Forever Reign” was repeated. I dig it! Here are the songs with the artists we based our arrangements on.
- Glory to God Forever – Fee Band
- Awesome Is The Lord Most High – Chris Tomlin
- Forever Reign – One Sonic Society
- You Gave Your Life Away – Paul Baloche

Recap: My second Sunday at Venture Christian Church had some fun technical issues. Imagine installing a different mixer the night before and that mixing console being a digital Yamaha 01v96–something you have never used before. You find a couple channels busted, so since you are filling in at a church in town for their Saturday night service, you ask a dear tech friend to help. Serendipity is that the young man, Brian, happens to be very familiar and experienced on the board. A California burrito is downed, then Brian comes and helps troubleshoot the board. We find problems that later have to be fixed, but the board basically did its job Sunday morning. (more…)
