Service Recap: I was really moved this week as it was apparent by the volume of voices that people were singing along in full force! With the loss of our pastor, it seems our people are ready to move forward and see what God is going to deliver this next chapter. The interim will be trying time. God will test both the leadership and the average Sunridge family member these coming months. Let’s not miss out!

Worship Set List: Once again I am struck by the simplicity yet impact that Fee and Beeching’s “Glory to God Forever” delivered. This weekend’s worship song set was about our eternal activity of worship.

Glory to God Forever – Fee Band

Everlasting God – Brenton Brown

Cry Out Your Name – Jeff Moore

Majesty – Delirious?

Recap: This past Sunday we did “Great Things” by Matt Maher again, which worked well once again. “My Savior God” is a powerful song, and I loved how our team invited people in with that song. Another good moment was the movement from “Great is Thy Faithfulness” to “How Great Is Our God.” Yeah, its true that the word “great” was prominent. However overused, pretty much everyone still understands what that word means! Our sub-theme of the name of Jesus I felt tied our set together. My hope is that people who come to church each week understand that what we are doing is making a big deal about Jesus, not ourselves.

RECAP: This Sunday was a lot of fun a few newer tunes. “Glory to God Forever” seems to be a keeper to me and “Great Things” got our place moving today. We are in a three-part series about finances. You can see Greg preaching here on video.

One malfunction that occurred due to me using my cheapest guitar strap and the fact that I was not used to it sliding like it did when I wanted to get people clapping along. It looked a bit weird and reminded me how important even the right guitar strap is! These songs, I have to admit, had a couple vocally challenging moments–Parachute Band’s “Come Before” just hangs on a break in my voice. I appreciate our band guys doing pretty good with backing vocals.

The flow seemed to work well today and what you see in the video above is our second service.

Recap: You can see the previous post and watch the behind the scenes video where dead mice were found. Besides that random thought, we had a great time worshiping together. First service started a bit funky with tech glitches and music glitches but the morning seemed to be electric and our people had an opportunity to offer worship.

I do not usually play guitar, but did so on the last two tunes. It was nice to stand out front and close to the people.

Worship Recap: Well, I was not there nor leading on Sunday but Dr. Ben Cherry took the helm and all reports were that it went great! Ben, thanks so much. I led rehearsal and knew from our planning and preparations that God would be moving this past weekend. I was on a plane during the services, so I did not personally witness how it went.

Set List: I chose songs this week that fit the theme of grace and communion:

You Are – Mark Roach

Recap: With Greg’s “Game of Life” series we gave another board game out–Clue. I like Sunridge as a name, but FUN-ridge is pretty cool.

In all seriousness, our hope with the worship set was to present how walking with Jesus requires much, but that He is with us all the way! I sure hope folks who sang with us or listened were encouraged by that thought.

Recap: What a cool life highlight for me to lead worship with both my daughter and nephew this morning. My 16-year-old nephew, Kyle Kirkpatrick, is staying with us for a week and played drums and cello in our worship team this weekend. He did great! Also, Emilie, my 15-year-old daughter, led worship with me as well on vocals and guitar. Part of my vision as a worship pastor is to build up the next generation and that includes my own family, of course!

Our worship and production team is great. Having Joey as a production intern, and other teens and young adults running things on stage, behind the scenes and in decision making roles in production and video makes this ministry at Sunridge worth much my personal life investment. The fruit will be huge in years to come. Thanks to our leadership and people for seeing our younger people as not the “future church” but part of the church right now.

Greg’s message of RISK was the first in a 5-part series “The Game of Life” where we are using board game titles to bounce of our topics. We gave away a board game today. I believe this series is going to deeply speak to our people.

Set List:

Let God Arise – Chris Tomlin

Today is The Day – Lincoln Brewster

O Worship The King – Chris Tomlin

Hosanna – Brooke Fraiser

Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone) – Chris Tomlin

OFFERING: Be Thou My Vision (cello)
